POSITION SUMMARY: The Sports & Recreation Part-Time/Temporary/Seasonal Laborer position performs non-exempt work performing maintenance, landscaping, mowing, weed eating, power washing, trash pickup and other duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Mows, weeds, trims, and picks up debris around sports fields. Repairs sprinkler irrigation system; repairs fences and sports fields as required.
Operates loader, chipper, tractor, and lawn mowing equipment.
Cleans restrooms, picks up litter around trash containers and roadways.
Performs other duties and assignments for other departments as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must have the following qualifications:

Skill in following oral instructions.
Verbal perception, motor coordination, manual dexterity.
Ability to follow instructions, operate tools and machinery safely, and perform manual labor.

Ability to read, understand and communicate fluently in the English language.

Must possess a valid driver’s license, possess driving record acceptable to City’s insurance carrier.
Ability to pass drug/alcohol and background screenings.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must be able to meet the following working conditions and physical requirements:

Much of the work is performed outdoors in inclement weather and during all seasons.
Some work may be performed in confined areas, on slick and wet surfaces.
May be exposed to vibrations, loud continuous noise, offensive smells, dust, dirt and water.
Must have ability to work with the public, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and carry out assignments with minimal direction.
Must possess skill or ability to learn operation of light truck, mowers, edgers, weed eater and ability to use shovels, rakes, etc.
May be exposed to injury from moving equipment, insect bites, poison plants, flying objects, slippery surfaces, or hazardous materials.
Capable of lifting objects of up to 50 pounds at frequent intervals.
Hours of part-time employees are limited to 29 per week; seasonal employees are limited to full weeks for three months.
