POSITION SUMMARY: The Parks/Cemetery Part-Time/Temporary/Seasonal Laborer position performs non-exempt work including maintenance, landscaping, and upkeep of all City parks, cemetery, and other areas owned by the City of Woodward not otherwise leased.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Mows, weed eats, trims, and picks up debris around City parks, cemetery, and other City property.
Plants, waters, fertilizes, trims, and maintains trees, shrubbery, and lawns.
Picks up trash in park areas, cemetery, and roadways, as necessary and helps clean restrooms.
Runs equipment when needed after being trained on the equipment.
Assists in the application of herbicide under supervision.
Assists in the repair of sprinkler systems and maintaining the Aquatics Center.
Assists in the repair of park and cemetery equipment, buildings, and fences.
Assists in the open and closing of graves.
Performs other duties and assists other departments as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to City’s insurance carrier.
Ability to work comfortably in high environments while trimming trees or changing light bulbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must have the following qualifications:

Skill in following oral instructions.
Verbal perception, motor coordination, manual dexterity.
Ability to follow instructions, operate equipment safely, and perform manual labor.

Ability to read, understand and communicate fluently in the English language.

Willingness to work outside in all types of weather.
Ability to pass drug/alcohol screening.
Ability to pass background screening.
Hours of part-time employees are limited to 29 per week; seasonal employees are limited to full weeks for three months.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must be able to meet the following working conditions and physical requirements:

Much of the work is performed outdoors in inclement weather and during all seasons.
Some work may be performed in confined areas, on slick and wet surfaces.
May be exposed to vibrations, loud continuous noise, offensive smells, dust, dirt and water.
May be subject to working around human remains.
Must have ability to work with the public, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and carry out assignments with minimal direction.
Must possess skill or ability to learn operation of backhoe, bucket truck, mowers, edgers, weed eater, compressors, and ability to use shovels, rakes, etc.
May be exposed to injury from moving equipment, insect bites, poison plants, flying objects, slippery surfaces, or hazardous materials.
Capable of lifting objects of up to 100 pounds at frequent intervals.
